Corona Virus Daily Devotions Day 104

Look for a Sign of Hope Today…

“If you suddenly
and unexpectedly feel joy,
don’t hesitate.
Give in to it… whatever it is,
don’t be afraid of its plenty.
Joy is not made to be a crumb.”
Mary Oliver,

Scripture
Matthew 19:16-26

Jesus said to him,
“If you wish to be perfect, go,
sell your possessions,
and give the money to the poor,
and you will have treasure in heaven;
then come, follow me.”
When the young man heard this word,
he went away grieving,
for he had many possessions.

When the man tells Jesus that he has faithfully followed all the commandments of the Torah, Jesus gives him two more; sell your possessions and give the money to the poor, then come and follow me. In this story we learn that one way to follow the God of all power and possibility may well be to give away our own power and possibilities.

As Christians all of us should ask ourselves on a regular basis if there is anything holding us back from following Jesus. Who knows what the answer will be? All we know is that when the answer comes it will be the voice of truth…fully in line with the scriptures and even more fully in line with the life of Jesus himself.

Meditation

In a time of silence and meditation ask yourself, what is holding you back from following Jesus more closely and more faithfully. Reflect on what it means to be a committed disciple of Christ. Does it mean beginning a new spiritual discipline to strengthen your faith? Does it mean witnessing to someone about your love of God? Does it mean serving others and working for the common good? Prayerfully choose one and act on it today.

Closing Prayer

Lord, make us grateful for all you give us,
and ready to give it all back to you. Amen

Through this song Tamara asks us to begin our week listening for the voice of truth.

May the grace and peace of our Lord and Savior, Jesus the Christ,
be with you now and forevermore…
